Hello guys, it’s Horatio once more. Apologies for the lack of action for a while, you know how it is, Christmas vacations and all that jazz! Had a very good festive period though. Lots of champagne and talks about how we are going to make this year one of the best yet with our businesses. This entry is a little different though however because one of my colleagues/friends received a gift that made me rather jealous indeed. A Pool table! One of those big American style ones with the huge pockets. I used to play a fair bit when I was younger but just don’t have the time now, but would be nice to come home on the odd occasion and relax whilst hitting some pool balls!

Pool Table? What Pool Table?

Now I don’t really know the first thing about pool tables so I had to get some help and do some research myself. I have a space large enough for one of the “American” style tables and have always preferred playing on those than the small “UK” style. I think it’s something to do with the smaller pockets! It’s just a bit harder to pot, and I get frustrated when I can’t pot a ball!

Research

After doing some digging there were two brands that really stuck out, the way they looked, they are just beautiful, but both totally opposite in the way they design pool tables. Brunswick, as you can see on their website here are far more traditional in design. I do like that kind of thing but the décor in my home is a little more modern feeling than that of a Brunswick.

Toulet, the One!

That led me to a different manufacturer, Toulet. They are very forward thinking and can design something that suits your needs. You have to wait a little while for the table, but they make them to order, and I like that. I have no problem in waiting for a product that is going to look stunning in my home. Some of the designs are not cheap at all, their flagship stuff can cost you more than £20000. I don’t think I have that kind of disposable lying around at the moment, so I was thinking of closer to £5000.

Ordering

I got in touch with the makers (they are a US based firm) and were happy to deal with me in the UK. I gave them a rough idea of what I wanted and within a week they came back to me with a design. I wasn’t totally happy with the original but I aired my grievances and they were only too happy to change the things that I wanted. Then what came back to me a few days later was just spot on. They really know what they are talking about. I even had the chance to have my own logo on the felt, which was a great touch. I decided on the badge of my favourite football team, Fulham. It’s probably not as classy as I would have liked but it was the spur of the moment, and you can always get these things changed.

Delivery

They told me that delivery could be between four and six weeks, I had no problem with that, and they told me that if it took longer than that then they would discount some of the price, now you can’t argue with that can you?

Only around another two weeks to go and I will have my pool table installed in my spare living space. What better use to put to it, hey? I’m very eager, not so sure if my girlfriend is as eager though! She says I don’t spend enough time with her already. I could always teach her how to play pool though, that old cliché!

Get Yourself a Pool Table!

This research led me on to see what you could get for cheaper, as some of my buddies are not as fortunate as me with how life has panned out for them. I came across an online site with some great examples of used pool tables, here. Didn’t realise there would be so much choice, and there are some good looking tables on the site. If you can’t go out and buy a new one then you should definitely check some of those out. Hope I have helped somewhat!

Hate to say it but it’s nice not to talk business for a little while… Now, back to where the money is ;)
